The Canary Islands are situated off the North West coast of Africa and consist of seven islands which are divided into two provinces. Las Palmas comprises the islands of Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. Santa Cruz de Tenerife is made up of Tenerife, La Palma, Gomera and Hierro. All the Canary Islands are of volcanic origin and the climate is subtropical. The landscape is spectacular and varied, and includes mountain ranges, lush forest, and volcanic craters. It has been popular with the British due to its near perfect climate especially in the depths of the British Winter. Tenerife - what's on offer?

Tenerife is the most popular of the Canary Islands as a holiday destination. It enjoys a hot climate throughout the entire year. At the heart of Tenerife is the majestic Mount Tiede volcano, towering over Tenerife at 12,200 feet. The eroded volcanic rock is the reason the sand on the beaches is a unusual greyish colour.

Puerto de la Cruz, the second city of the island, has the famous statue of the Black Virgin Madona.

A great day out is Loro Park, home for 350 different species of parrots, or visit the busy port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Explore the underwater world in crystal clear waters full of tropical fish surrounding Tenerife. Snorkelling, scuba diving and swimming are extremely popular activities. Other day trips include glass bottomed boat trips, exciting game fishing or fascinating whale and dolphin watching.

The island of La Gomera makes another great day trip, reachable via a short ferry journey. Once on the smaller island, the main highlight is the Garajonay National Park which is made up of over 10,000 acres hiding a laurel forest in the middle. This day trip can prove to be absolutely magical as the mist descends over the park when the Atlantic winds mix with the warmer island air.
